The Cassette plugin is a vintage tape emulator that captures the unique and distinctive sound of this often underrated recording medium. It delivers a sound that is like no other and that I love.
This is not a tape recorder, it is a time machine. An entire generation heard the music that shaped their lives on cassette tapes. I grew up listening to them at home, in the car or on a Walkman.
They are not perfect, in fact, they are far from perfect. That is what I love about them. This is my homage to the sound that shaped my childhood.
I discovered my love for music among the quirks and random fluctuations. Watching the meters move as I sang into an old microphone. Red spikes and analog saturation.
Rewind, listen again. Why will you love Cassette?
Cassette is designed to be fun, easy on the ears and true to the medium.
Tape emulation
The Cassette has been carefully modeled after an exhaustive analysis of a large number of audio signals recorded on real tapes.
As a result, we get the same sound and behavior as the original unit.
Randomness under control
Magnetic tape is not a sterile medium. It imprints its own sonic signature.
Some of these non-linear effects are unpredictable, which makes the signal more natural and alive.
Powerful features
There is much more under the hood than meets the eye. In the settings panel, you can fully control all the parameters that make the tape sound like tape.
Cassette types
What type are you? We have modeled all four available cassette types. Each offers different sonic characteristics.
Type I: This was the standard and most compatible format. It featured an iron oxide (Fe2O3) coating. It first appeared in the 1960s.
Type II: With a chromium dioxide (CrO2) formulation, it was introduced in the early 1970s, offering an undeniable increase in high-frequency response.
Type III: Having a short run from the mid-1970s to the early 1980s, iron-chromium (FeCr) never really reached its golden age.
Type IV: The metallic formulation hit the scene in the late 1970s.
It features tighter bass and higher high frequencies.
About magnetic tape
Magnetic tape is not a sterile medium. It imprints its own sonic signature on the signals recorded on it.
This includes different frequency responses, frequency-dependent saturation, high-frequency compression, hiss, harshness noise, and more. Playback systems will also instill their own signature: wow, flutter, random high-frequency loss, crosstalk, stereo imbalances, and more. All these little quirks and random fluctuations have been meticulously modeled in Cassette.

Cassette Settings
Tape
I've always wanted a modular tape plugin where I could turn each stage of processing on or off.
Stability
Control how the Stability parameter on the front panel works internally.
Includes "randomness" to make things unpredictable and analog.
Extra
More than just makes a cassette sound like a cassette. Including the innovative "Re-Cassette" parameter that runs the processing multiple times.
Artifacts
Control how the Artifacts parameter on the front panel works internally. Includes "Random Snap" to simulate the tape being momentarily caught.
Audio Demos
Hear how the included presets sound in a real mix.
This track is called "Last Sunrise of Neon Summer" by Xavi Gano. We just insert the plugin into the master bus and cycle through them.
